«Ha habido» en inglés, cómo usar «there have been» y «there has been»

Si te fijas, verás que al día utilizamos el verbo haber, como verbo principal decenas de veces.

En presente simple obtendríamos There is/are > There is an apple on the table. There are two apples on the table. (Hay una manzana/Hay dos manzanas en la mesa).

En pasado simple obtendríamos There was/were > There was an apple on the table. There were two apples on the table. (Había una manzana/Había dos manzanas en la mesa).

En esta clase veremos there + to be en presente perfecto.

La teoría

Con sustantivos incontables en singular usamos there has been, y para el plural, there have been. Recuerda que, aunque en castellano siempre sea ha habido, en inglés hay que conjugar:

  • There’s been an accident on the M1.
  • There haven’t been many football matches on TV lately.

En la forma interrogativa se coloca el auxiliar al principio y, si hay adverbios, preceden a been:

  •  Has there ever been an Australian Pope?

La práctica

Empecemos con frases en afirmativa.

Siempre ha habido una fuente en el pueblo. There’s always been a fountain in the village.
Ha habido demasiados errores para mi gusto. There have been too many mistakes for my liking.
Ha habido mucha especulación sobre Marte. There’s been a lot of speculation about Mars.

 

Ahora practicamos la negativa con there haven’t been y there hasn’t been.

No ha habido películas buenas últimamente. There haven’t been any good films lately.
No ha habido mucha acción últimamente. There hasn’t been much action lately.
No ha habido trabajos disponibles en el campo que he elegido. There haven’t been any jobs available in my chosen field.

 

Terminamos con las preguntas en singular y en plural.

¿Ha habido buenos conciertos últimamente? Have there been any good concerts lately?
¿Ha habido mucha tensión entre los miembros del equipo? Has there been much tension among the team members?
¿Ha habido muchas quejas acerca de aquél gorila (vigilante)? Have there been many complaints about that bouncer?

 

Extra

Clave de pronunciación

Al pronunciar there cuidado con no decir /zei/ en vez de /dzee/. Y, siempre que sea posible, únelo a la palabra que le sigue.

Error común

Mucha gente no concuerda there + to be con el sujeto y dice there has been two meetings today en vez de there have been two meetings today. El verbo siempre tiene que conjugarse según el sujeto.
